
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio has reportedly signed a contract with WWE. Today, Ernesto Ocampo of Super Luchas reported that multiple AAA talents, including El Patron (a.k.a. Del Rio), have inked a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment following the merger.
“Many fans, especially in the U.S., are assuming that by buying AAA, WWE is also acquiring the contracts. But aside from the fact that the sale hasn’t been finalized, those contracts are of no use to WWE,”
“As WWE’s contracts are legally distinct and include multiple provisions and clauses such as exclusivity, intellectual property rights, and termination conditions—that AAA’s do not address or enforce. That’s why new contracts are replacing the existing ones,” Ocampo wrote.
Professional wrestling veteran Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Alberto Del Rio has signed a contract with WWE.
Why do WWE fans hate Alberto Del Rio?
Since the report went viral on the internet, wrestling fans have been sharing their mixed reactions. With the majority being negative.
This might have raised a query among new wrestling fans about why a former world heavyweight champion. Despite a decorated career, he is disliked by WWE fans.
Del Rio has been a controversial figure. He was previously charged in a serious criminal case; however, the charges were later dropped.
Alberto was also arrested after becoming violent with popular pro wrestler and former WWE superstar Paige. Who was his girlfriend at the time.
These multiple factors lead to fans disliking Alberto Del Rio. However, every man deserves a second chance.
It will be interesting to see if Del Rio has changed and where he lands once he prepares for his WWE return after 2016.
