Jon Jones is the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion. He defended his title against heavyweight legend Stipe Miocic last year at UFC 309.
However, many fans were upset that Jon Jones ducked interim champion Tom Aspinall and fought a 42-year-old legend who has passed his prime in mixed martial arts.
Fans have repeatedly asked for a fight between the two, and Dana White has strongly claimed that it will happen this year.
However, a recent report by Ariel Helwani suggests a different angle, which might see Jon Jones vacating the UFC title but not retiring. Here’s the story:
“Jon Jones reportedly told Dana White that he’s willing to vacate the title so Tom Aspinall can compete for it against another opponent. Once fully ready, he plans to return and challenge the reigning champion. (via @ arielhelvvani)
Fans want Dana White to take Jon Jones’s UFC championship for a major reason
Allegedly, Jones has been repeatedly trying to push for a fight against Tom Aspinall, and the British star also called Bones “Duck” for not fighting him.
Many believe Aspinall could indeed end Jones’ unbeaten record in a UFC fight.
Fans are extremely bitter that Bones sidestepped Tom Aspinall and are proposing that Dana White take the belt from Jones and book an actual fight for the vacant title between Aspinall and the rightful contender.
