Conor McGregor last fought in the UFC on July 10, 2021, when he broke his tibia during a bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. As of March 2025, he has been out of the Octagon for nearly three years.
He was set to make his highly anticipated return at UFC 303 on June 29, 2024, against Michael Chandler, but pulled out just weeks before the fight due to a broken toe.
Now, concerns about his MMA future are growing, with Charles Oliveira urging fans to “forget” McGregor.
The Brazilian fighter argues that McGregor’s prolonged absence and recent choices suggest he may never return to the UFC.

Charles Oliveira Suggests Conor McGregor Is Likely Retiring
As speculation continues about Conor McGregor’s comeback, former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira has shut down the idea. In an interview with Oddspedia, he questioned why fans still believe McGregor will return.
“To be honest, I don’t know why people are still talking about Conor McGregor. He’s done everything he wanted to do in the sport, and now he’s choosing to live his life the way he wants to,” Oliveira said. “We’ve been waiting for him to come back, and he hasn’t shown up. I think fans should forget about Conor McGregor coming back; he’s not going to fight again.”
Oliveira suggested that McGregor has likely already decided on his future, adding to the speculation about his retirement. However, even if his UFC career is over, he might still compete against non-UFC opponents in the future.
Dana White and the Future of McGregor’s Career
Although Oliveira remains skeptical, UFC President Dana White believes McGregor could return by the end of 2025. However, uncertainties persist due to McGregor’s ongoing personal commitments.
Meanwhile, speculation continues about possible boxing matches against Jake Paul or Logan Paul. While these bouts would keep McGregor engaged in combat sports, they wouldn’t confirm his UFC comeback.
McGregor’s History of Retirements
If McGregor retires, it won’t be his first time. The Irish fighter has repeatedly declared his retirement from MMA. Most recently, on March 22, 2023, he tweeted, “Hey guys, I’ve decided to retire from fighting.”
In the past, McGregor announced his retirement in April 2016 and March 2019, only to make swift returns to the Octagon. Because of this pattern, many fans and analysts doubt whether his latest break will truly signal the end of his UFC career.
Although McGregor hasn’t made an official retirement announcement, his extended absence, along with Oliveira’s remarks, has fueled speculation about his future in MMA. If he does leave the UFC, he might still compete in boxing against non-UFC opponents.
For now, his retirement remains uncertain. And as history has shown, nothing is ever definite with Conor McGregor.
